Legacy of the Dragonborn
SSE Version

Find a replacement for Ongar's hammer.

Walkthrough

Go to the Nightgate Inn west of Windhelm and speak to Ongar, who is drunkenly swaying around the inn. He claims it's the fault of his warhammer. He'll give it to you if you bring him a replacement.

Find or craft a new warhammer for Ongar

The replacement hammer, called Horker Tusk Hammer, is found at the Solitude Blacksmith, on the table next to the shop sign. It can either be stolen or bought from Beirand.

Alternatively, the Hammer can be crafted at any forge (no perks required) if you have the required materials:

Another alternative is to simply pickpocket Kegbreaker from Ongar (Misdirection perk needed) or take it from his corpse if he's been killed (which is highly unlikely unless you kill him yourself). This will skip the next stage if you haven't acquired the replacement hammer yet.

Return to Ongar

Return to the Nightgate Inn and trade the new Hammer for Kegbreaker.

Show Kegbreaker to the curator of the museum in Solitude

You need to show Kegbreaker to Auryen before the display in the Daedric Exhibit Hall will become available.

Notes

  • The location and the name of the replacement hammer has been changed with LotD version 5.5.3. Before, it was found at Warmaiden's in Whiterun and was called Ongar's Hammer.

Ongar's Kegbreaker (DBM_OngarKegbreaker)
Stage Journal Entry
5 [Startup Stage]
20 I've met the supposed drunkard Ongar Brewer at the Nightgate Inn, who has agreed to trade me his peculiar Warhammer of Inebriation in exchange for me finding a proper replacement. I could check out the blacksmiths in Windhelm, Whiterun and Solitude to see if any of them have a fitting replacement, or I might try to craft one myself.

Objective 20: Find or craft a new warhammer for Ongar.

25 I've aquired a fitting hammer to replace Ongar's Hammer of Inibriation. I should take it to Ongar at the Nightgate Inn.

Objective 25: Return to Ongar.

30 I've given Ongar a new warhammer in exchange for his oddly enchanted warhammer known as Kegbreaker. He warned me not to use the hammer too often lest I fall victim to its inebriating effects. I should show the hammer to the curator at the museum in Solitude.

Objective 30: Show Kegbreaker to the curator of the museum in Solitude.

35 The hammer Kegbreaker is apparently an artifact of Sanguine known as the Inebriator. Auryen has set a place in the Daedric Gallery to display it.

[Completes quest]

100 [if Ongar is dead]
I had been tasked by Ognar to retrieve a hammer to replace his Warhammer of Inebriation, however he died before I could do that. I should still try to recover the hammer as it may be of value to the Dragonborn Gallery.

Objective 100: Retrieve Kegbreaker.

150 [if Ongar is dead]
I had been tasked by Ognar to retrieve a hammer to replace his Warhammer of Inebriation, however he died before I could do that. I managed to acquire his hammer anyway. Auryen may know something more about it.

Objective 30: Show Kegbreaker to the curator of the museum in Solitude.

150 [if Kegbreaker is pickpocketed]
I've met the supposed drunkard Ongar Brewer at the Nightgate Inn, who has agreed to trade me his peculiar Warhammer of Inebriation in exchange for me finding a proper replacement. I decided that was too much work and simply stole the item from him, I should show it to Auryen.

Objective 30: Show Kegbreaker to the curator of the museum in Solitude.
