Digging up Explorers

[Show]
Dragonborn Kyle
You seem pretty down. Well, just not content in my work, I guess. I'm just tired of digging for ore. Just wish I could dig for something more worthwhile and interesting.
I just might be able to help you with that. Oh? How's that?
[Tell about Explorers Guild] Seriously? That sounds fantastic! Count me in!

Prospecting Ore

[Show]
Dragonborn Kyle
What are you going to do between digs?
(initial conversation)
Well, I mostly help Eriana move her inventory around and Professor Marassi or Auryen in whatever they need in prepping for a dig. But now that you mention it I do have some extra time on my hands, and I have a little knack that might help you. If you bring me five samples of any type of ore, I can prospect them for you. I can usually find another trace ore type or a gem that most other people would overlook and lose in the smelting process. If I do find one, it will derive from one of the samples, so you'll get four of them back and the new element which is usually of a better variety. Just let me know.
I have some ore for you to prospect. Oh sure, what kind?
  • Corundum ore.
  • Iron ore.
  • Malachite ore.
  • Moonstone ore.
  • Orichalcum ore.
  • Quicksilver ore.

All right, let's have a look, then.

  • Yes, hmmmm. Ah ha! There we are. Sure enough, there's traces of other elements in here. (success)
  • Yes, hmmm, well, sad to say, this is just a single variety of pure ore with nothing else in it. Sorry. (failure)

There you go. If you have any more you want looked at, just let me know.

As a follower

[Show]
Dragonborn Kyle

Follow me, I need your help.
(recruiting him as a follower)

  • Good. Lead the way.
  • Seems you already have someone's help.
(if the player already has a follower)
Time to manage the loot.
(accessing his inventory)
All right, let's see what we've got.
Let's split up now.
(dismiss him)
All right then, I'll be at the Guildhouse if you need me.
Wait here. Ok.
Ok, let's keep going. Good, lead the way.
I need you to do something.
  • Alright, what is it? (followed by player's command)
  • Ok. (if command's aborted)
  • Will do. (agrees)
  • I just can't do that. (refuses)
  • Sorry, but digging in the dirt is the only dirty work I do. (refuses)

Excavation of Windcaller Pass

[Show]

After clearing the first blockade

Dragonborn Kyle
Guildmaster! We've found something! We just scouted ahead and found that there is a clearing in the pass, but it's guarded by not one but two dragons! That'd be your department for sure. I've never seen Madras run so fast. We'll wait at the North camp for you to deal with it.

After clearing the second blockade

Dragonborn Kyle
So where we at? Well, thanks to your help we managed to move the column out of the way, but it seems there's more hazards ahead. Mind looking into it? We'll regroup at the camp, ready for the next push once it's safe.

Idle chat, topics depend on quest progression

Dragonborn Kyle
How goes the work? It goes well. It was nice prying down that big slab and not knowing what to expect for once, instead of just, you know, looking for metal.
How is the digging going? It's slow going. Some areas are harder than others but many of the heavy rocks can be rolled aside with a little effort.
Dragons put you on edge? Giant flying lizards that can swallow you whole? No, why would I be on edge? Ha ha. You, my friend, are the only person who isn't.
How long do you suppose all this took to build? Oh, decades at least. Dozens if not hundreds of masons and stone workers digging and building around the clock. Really quite impressive.
How goes the progress? Broke a pick the other day. The ground around here is so hard from being frozen solid, it's quite the task to get through it.
Don't worry about the beast, I'll deal with it. Just watch yourself in there. That thing sounded pretty nasty. Would hate for something to get the jump on you.

Excavation of the Ruins of Rkund

[Show]

Idle chat, answers depend on quest progression

Dragonborn Kyle

How are you doing?

  • We'll find that entrance before you know it.
  • Looks like most of these ruins were lost entirely in the earthquake.
  • Well, the good news is that everything that will collapse in this place probably already has.
  • This place is amazing. It had to have taken decades for the Dwemer to carve out all these halls.

Trial of Trinimac

[Show]

After waking up in the Guildhouse

Dragonborn Kyle
Ah, good, you're finally coming around.
What? What happened? Where am I? We're back at the Guildhouse, safe and sound. You've been out for nearly a week. We were starting to doubt you were ever going to come around.
A week? Seriously? Yes, you took a rather nasty knock on the head. When those Falmer attacked the ruins, their leader brought the whole cavern down on itself. We barely got out.
Is everyone else ok? Well. Sadly, no. Professor Marassi, he... Didn't make it out. We dug for days but didn't find any sign of him but part of his coat and tools he had.
Oh no. That's... tragic... Yes. We've all been a bit taken aback by it, but I think Auryen has taken it the hardest, being long time friends and colleagues and all.
I'll talk with him. That's good, he'd appreciate that. Glad you're back with us, Guild Master.

Becoming the new Chief of Archeology

Dragonborn Kyle
So what do you think about taking over the Chief Archaeologist position? Me? The Chief? Well, I don't know. I have been hitting the books pretty hard lately, but I still don't know nearly as much as Marassi did.
That's ok, not many do. You'll figure it out, you're the most well rounded here. Thanks for your vote of confidence. I suppose if nobody is against it, I'd be happy to give it my best. Sure. I'll do it, Guild Master.

About the Falmer Book

Dragonborn Kyle
Well, Guild Master, I think we should continue onward and not dwell on our losses. What do you say? While you were unconscious, Latoria and I took the Falmer book we found in the Greenwall ruins to Calcelmo so he could help translate it for us. Here's a translated copy of the tome, and it gives us some interesting clues. Have a read through yourself.
So what do you make of the book? (after reading it) Well, it obviously has prophetic overtones of a savior called the Deathweaver rising up to redeem the Falmer and conquer the world of men. Obviously the Falmer really know how to hold a grudge, but who can blame them. From what I've read lately, they really got the shite end of the stick. Mauloch, though. Why does that name sound familiar?
Malacath.
(spoken by Auryen)
Oh right, thank you. It's another name for Malacath, Daedric prince of the forsaken, spurned and unfavorable. So it may seem that these Snow Elves might be worshiping Malacath?

Speaking with him after receiving his letter

Dragonborn Kyle
I got your letter. Ah, fantastic. Glad you caught up with us, we're going to need all the help we can get. Auryen and I managed to find some references in some books at the library and narrowed down the location to this place here. Well, Auryen mostly. Issue is, the temple was buried in a landslide ages ago, and we're going to have to dig. A lot. Jump on in, we're already well underway and could use your help.

Excavating the Temple of Trinimac

Dragonborn Kyle
That was a lot of work. Yes it was, but we're making some great headway, and look. There's some remains of Snow Elven architecture here. I think we're on the right track. Let's get some rest, though, and start back to work on it again tomorrow.
Ready to get back to work? (after resting) Ah good, well rested? I think we're ready as well. Let's get back to it. I think we're almost there.

After finding the Snow Elf temple

Dragonborn Kyle
Gather the team. I've found the temple. Oh, really? Fantastic! I think we're pretty much ready to go. Lead the way.

After excavating the tunnel entrance

Dragonborn Kyle
Well, that about does it, Guild Master. We've gotten through the tunnel and it does in fact come out next to the temple! We set up a small excavation camp at the mouth of the tunnel just outside the temple and we're ready to continue investigating when you're ready.

Idle chat, topics depend on quest progression

Dragonborn Kyle

How are things?

  • We're getting there. Lots of wood to chop for building the scaffolds.
  • Ah, my aching back. I'll have to see if Eriana has any more of that salve she made.
  • Those are some impressive ruins down there. I'd hate to fall off and into that pit, though. Watch your footing in there.
  • We're really building some momentum here. Of course, we can always use another hand.
  • It's always exciting to be digging and then come across a bit of carved stone or a fragment of pottery.
  • Just have to remember to pace ourselves. Wouldn't want to have a nasty accident. Really lets you know you are on the right track.

Holding up ok?

  • Marassi is going to be sorely missed around here, I can tell you. As gruff as he seemed on the surface, he was always very encouraging.
  • Haha, I remember at Windcaller Pass, Marassi took all the heads off my pickaxes and hid them from me. Got everyone to make believe that they were still on the handles. I'm going to miss that old fool.
