Acquisition
Both enchanted and unenchanted variants can be found throughout Skyrim from level 1.
Locations include:
- Blacksmiths and general goods merchants.
- Worn by bandits.
- Found randomly in loot containers, or as a world item throughout Skyrim.
Smithing recipe
It requires no prerequisite smithing level or perks to forge. It can be made at a forge with the following materials:

Either the Iron Armor or the Banded Iron Armor can be used for the "light armor" Iron display in the Armory.
