Quick Walkthrough
- Find Auryen's Notes on Umbra in the Curator's Office and read them.
- Travel to Dead Lovers Camp (unmarked location), just up the path uphill of Old Hroldan Inn.
- Defeat the NPC Umbra and loot Umbra off their corpse.
Notes
- If you already picked up Umbra before reading the notes, the quest finishes instantly with a different journal entry.
- You can finish the quest by console by using Setstage DBM_AMJournalQST05 50. Only adviced if you are experiencing a problem with the quest.

| 30 | I was attacked in the Reach by an ebony clad warrior who gave no pause or reason for his aggression and after his defeat, found he had the blade Umbra, apparently driven mad by it. I best put it in safe keeping. |
| 50 | If it has already been found: The journals of Auryen relay rumors of a warrior possessing Umbra in the Reach, and in fact they turned out to be true as I have already found and claimed the blade. One more journal of Auryen's that can be filed away under "complete". |
